All three cities mentioned below have a ‘Call a Bike’ scheme; where after registering on the website, you can rent a bike.

Berlin, Capital of Germany

Brandemburg Gate-Much photographed, this was the site of many of Hitler’s Nazi parades; this majestic gate is inspired by the entrance of the Acropolis in Athens. Before German unification, this gate was situated in no-man’s land.

Museumsinsel (Museum Island) - Built on an island in the River Spree, this is a cluster of five museums and gardens each presenting a different aspect of German culture.

The East Side Gallery – This is a mile long portion of the Berlin Wall that was left intact. A dozen international artists came to Berlin and painted their reaction to the end of the Cold War era.

Munich

English Garden – Informal English type of garden, it stretches from the city center to the city limits. The park has a few beer gardens and you can rent a bike or a row boat to relax.

Deutsches Museum- Six floors and 12 miles of halls with exhibits-should either scare or excite you; with a special section for children that makes science and technology easy to understand through interaction.

Marienplatz – Accessible by train and the stop has the same name. There’s plenty of entertainment here with musicians, mimes and street performers; plus shops, beer & bratwursts restaurants.

Cologne

Germany’s fourth largest city is the most liberal and also one of the hotspots of German tourism.

Kölner Dom - Germany’s biggest cathedral and before the Eiffel Tower was built, Europe’s tallest structure. Jam packed with arts and cultural treasures, feel free to climb its 533 steps to the top for a small fee. Closed during Mass.

Museum für Angewandte Kunst Köln – This is a different kind of museum-devoted to decorative arts. Here you will find Industrial Design, Jewelry, Tapestries, etc. Highly recommended for the creative kind.

Fragrance Museum – This is the place where the famous Eau de Cologne was invented by Johann Maria Farina 300 years ago. You can compare the original fragrance to the modern day imitations too.
