A Last-Minute Checklist For Students Travelling Abroad

January 08, 2018

It takes a lot of effort, hard work, and dedication for any student to get into their dream college. However, the task doesn’t end there. Students might be required to move countries, stay at a hostel, and even more to study in one of the best universities of the world. They have so many things to carry along and although some airlines offer deals on baggage for students, planning is essential.

Here’s a quick last-minute checklist for students who are travelling abroad:

Travel details: Needless to say, it's important to have all your travel details such as itinerary, tickets, important numbers, and hotel details ready in advance.  Also, make sure that you have found the best route to reach your university or hostel from the airport. This will save you a lot of time. There have been cases in the past where people have missed flights because of AM-PM confusion. Confirm your flight timings at least 24 hours prior to avoid any inconvenience later.

Cabin luggage essentials: When it comes to carry-on luggage, less is more. We suggest you carry only those things that you cannot survive without in your carry-on luggage. It is also important for students to make sure that they follow the airline guidelines. For example, liquids, nail cutters, Swiss knives, scissors, or sharp objects are restricted in the carry-on luggage. Therefore, if students want to carry any of these things, they must put it check-in luggage.

Medications: It is advised that students must carry their medications along with prescriptions. It is possible that some medicines that are readily available in India may not be available in the country that you’re planning to visit. Also, if you are allergic to something, then make sure you carry the necessary tablets and ointments.

Clothes: Students must do research about the weather of the city before packing. This will help them pack the right stuff and also keep them safe from flu and cold. If your college has a dress code, then you must carry clothes accordingly. However, avoid carrying all clothes as it will leave you will less space for other essentials.

Finances: It is important to sort out finances beforehand as buying forex last minute could not only be expensive, but also stressful for both – the parents and the student. Since the stay would be long, forex cards are preferred over cash. Cash is at a risk of being stolen, whereas forex cards are highly secure and convenient. They can be reloaded from anywhere and therefore is a sensible and practical option for kids who are moving abroad for higher studies. Forex cards also prevent you from currency fluctuations and allow the student to travel worry-free. Buy forex card at the best price here.

Other essentials that a student must carry include an adaptor for chargers and other electronic devices, toiletries, backpack, etc. Lastly, don’t forget to weigh your bags after packing. If the bags are deemed overweight at the airport then chances are you will be either asked to pay some money or discard some luggage.
